Snow Day

Well, we our starting our second day of being snowed/iced in here in Memphis. All week, the news has been forecasting a winter storm that was supposed to hit overnight Thursday night. Now, I have to admit, I was skeptical of the so-called severe weather that they were predicting. For instance, a couple of weeks ago, the entire city shut down after we received about a 1/4" - 1/2" of snow. Seriously. To the people of Memphis, this was perfectly understandable, but to someone from a bit farther north, it seemed pretty ridiculous. On Thursday afternoon though, they upgraded Memphis from a Winter Storm Watch to a Winter Storm Warning, and on Thursday night at about 9:00 pm, the announcement went out that the University would be closed on Friday. And in spite of my skepticism, we actually got quite a storm yesterday. It started as snow yesterday morning, which totaled about 1/2" - 1", then it changed over to freezing rain. It rained/sleet pretty much all day long, and temperatures were below freezing, which means there is a crust of ice over pretty much the entire city.

Here is the pretty side of ice

And here is the ugly side of ice

This branch came crashing down onto our house at about 11:00 pm last night. At the moment, there doesn't appear to be any damage, but it certainly gave us quite a scare.
And here is the tree that the branch fell off of

It's not supposed to get above freezing today, which means we won't be going anywhere again today, and it's only barely supposed to break freezing tomorrow. So, who knows how long we'll be stuck inside...
