The Great Flood of 2011
Most of you probably saw the news this past May about the flooding of the Mississippi River down here in the south. The river crested here in Memphis just shy of the all-time record. Fortunately, we were not affected by the flood at all, although the fact that the entire county was under an Emergency Evacuation Notice for a while was a bit creepy. The night that the river crested, Albert and I went downtown to capture some pictures of the water. It's difficult to grasp how far inland the water was, especially if you don't have an idea of where it should end. But while the water pushed mildly into the downtown area of Memphis, it was absolutely mind-blowing to drive west on I-40 into Arkansas where the water stretched for nearly 3 miles! Here are some of the images that we caught downtown.
