Chick fil a 5k

On Labor Day, Monday morning, Albert and I got up and headed downtown to run in the Chick Fil A 5k. It was a great morning - nice and cool when we headed out, although it had definitely warmed up a bit by the time the race started. Albert and I had the pleasure of running with one of the other band directors from the university, who was running his first ever 5k. Prior to Monday, he had never even run a full 3.1 miles outside (only on the treadmill). He did great! And Albert and I definitely had a lot of fun. The course ran straight down Front Street through the heart of downtown, then it wound down and ran along the river for awhile, which was awesome, and finally we headed up Beale Street to the finish which was inside the Redbirds stadium. I'm not sure how many runners were there this year, but last year, around 1700 runners crossed the finish line.

After the race, we went home and just had a nice, relaxing day.  It was a great holiday weekend!

This was actually the "before" picture. The funny thing though, is that we also took an after picture, and a friend of ours at the university looked at it and pretty much said the same thing. He said, "Man, the guys look soaked and tired, but you look exactly the same except your forehead is a bit shiny." haha
