An evening of music

Last night, I played at my first big performance of the semester.  About a month ago, one of the doctoral trombone students at the University of Memphis asked me if I would play for a small tour that he and another trombonist (professional musician in Mississippi) were doing.  They were planning on presenting recitals in Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas.  So, of course I said yes!  Well, with a really large program (most of which I had never played before) and only about a month to prepare, I was very nervous for the first performance last night in Clarksville, TN.  Fortunately, the recital went very well, and this is what I got to perform on.

It was a 9' concert grand Bosendorfer with an extended keyboard.  (It might be difficult to see in the picture, but on the left side of the keyboard are nine extra keys.  They are black on the top so as not to throw off the performers depth perception since most keyboards are not that large.)  This was absolutely the nicest piano I have ever played in my life.  It probably cost somewhere around $200,000 - $300,000...seriously...  I wonder how long it would take me to save my pennies in order to get one of these bad boys for myself?  HA

Here we are right before the recital

(Maybe I should have worn taller heels!  ha)

Anyway, I was incredibly relieved that everything went well, and now I'm looking forward to the next performance next Tuesday in Mississippi.  I will continue to post about some of the bigger performances I have, and hopefully, if I can figure the technology out, I will also start to post recordings so you can hear snippets of the music I'm playing.  I don't have the recording from last night yet, but maybe after the next recital, I can include some sound bites.

Well, I'm off to practice....
