It's been awhile since I've seen some of you who are reading this, so I thought I would update everyone on just exactly what is going on in my life at the moment. As the title of the blog suggests, I am currently living in Memphis, TN. I have been here for just over a year now and really enjoy it. Memphis truly has a lot to offer - history, culture, and art (plus Elvis! of course). I have been working as a free lance musician, and I love it. It affords me the opportunity to perform regularly, not to mention the fact that I get to play the piano every day...as my job...and get paid for it. I also love the fact that I am my own boss - I get to choose who I want to work with, how much I want to work, and how much I want to charge. I do most of my work at the University of Memphis (which also means that I still get all of the regular school breaks!), but I have also worked with some of the area high schools, as well as the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. So, what brought me to Memphis?
Introducing my amazing husband
As most of you know, I moved to Austin, TX in 2006 to go to graduate school. During the first week of class, I noticed an incredibly dashing guy in my class. :) A couple of weeks later, we were introduced at a party downtown. To make a long story short, I had to knock him over the head a couple of times to get him to notice me. (Yes, I was the first one to ask him out.) But finally, he realized that he just couldn't live without me - either that or he was just resigned to the fact that I wasn't going to go away! I knew within a couple of weeks that he was the one for me, and 11 months later, on September 15, 2007, we were engaged.
We were married on May 31, 2008 at Unity Village in Missouri. Albert also graduated with his doctorate in May of '08 and was offered a position at the University of Memphis. He is the Assistant Director of Bands, as well as the Director of Athletic Bands. He is in charge of the marching band and the basketball pep band, conducts the University Band, and teaches class as well as private lessons.
Since I don't want this to be too obnoxiously long, I will just briefly mention the last two members of our family and then leave you until next time.
This is Ozzy
We adopted Ozzy from a foster home right after we moved to Memphis a little over a year ago. He is a big teddy bear of a cat, and seriously, the most laid-back cat I've EVER seen.
And this is Darcy
We adopted Darcy from a local shelter about six weeks ago, and she is great. Like most kittens, she loves to play and has tons of energy. She likes to wrestle with Ozzy, and her favorite thing to do is to help me make the bed in the morning. :)
Anyway, that is my life in a very little nutshell. So, until next time...
